Visiting a client could lead to a serious slip-and-fall accident

As a business professional, there may be times when you leave your office to meet with clients. While this may be part of your job, there is something you need to remember: You could be injured during your trip.

This isn't something you think about often, but it could happen to you when you least expect it.

For example, there are many potential causes of an outdoor slip-and-fall accident. Consider the following:

  • Ice or snow accumulation. As one of our Massachusetts or New Hampshire readers, you know that ice and snow often hits the area hard during the cold winter months. This can lead to slippery conditions, such as in a parking lot or sidewalk leading to the building.
  • Lack of outdoor lighting. Are you visiting a client before or after the sun is shining bright? If so, you know that it can be a challenge to see the ground in front of you. Inadequate lighting can be the cause of a slip-and-fall accident. For example, you may not be able to see a curb or maybe you step into a pothole in a parking lot.
  • Parking lots. Every parking lot has an owner that is responsible for maintaining it in a manner that provides safe access. This includes things such as keeping it clear of snow and ice, patching holes and cracks and ensuring that there are no trip hazards.

As you go from one client meeting to the next, you will have a lot on your mind. This means that you may not be thinking about being injured in an outdoor slip-and-fall accident.

If this happens, you should do the following:

  • Notify the property owner of your accident.
  • Seek immediate medical attention for your injuries (this may be the first step you take).
  • Learn more about the cause of your accident.
  • Focus on your legal rights, as you may want to attempt to receive compensation for your injuries and other damages.

An outdoor slip-and-fall accident can be extremely dangerous. In some cases, this could cause an injury such as a concussion or broken bone. If you find yourself in this position, your health is priority number one. Once you've been treated, you can then turn your focus to protecting your legal rights.
